The Southern-style eatery serves barbecue, fried chicken and wings from its location at 5901 S. Ridgewood Ave., at the intersection with Nova Road in Port Orange. Doors opened at 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, at the sit-down restaurant that also caters and delivers. The eatery currently employs 11.

Owner Todd Garner makes everything in house: “Off-the-chain great” marinated, deep-pressured fried chicken; smoked brisket; beef burnt ends; pulled and sliced pork; wings with house-made sauces; St. Louis and baby back ribs; and Southern staple sides including barbecue beans, coleslaw, and mac & cheese. Open for both lunch and dinner, meals range from around $6 up to roughly $25.

“I love fried chicken, and doing and barbecue has been a dream for years, so the combination just made sense,” said Garner, who opened the restaurant after a 16-year career in the food industry.

Garner served as general manager of four local restaurants during that time, including the South Turn Lounge & Restaurant off Nova Road in Daytona Beach and the Last Resort Bar in Port Orange.

Garner leases the 2,100 square-foot building from a landlord he’s known most of his life, who allowed him to completely renovate the space. Aside from a little help from his brother-in-law, Garner completed the extensive renovations himself, and it took him more than a year to do it.

“The (building) was really bad, and what we’ve done is redone the entire building,” he said. “We spent a good, long year renovating the place. So anyone who had been here back then (when it was Famous Phillies), just know it’s totally different and much better now.”

Garner is optimistic Bike Week visitation will help bring customers in over the restaurant’s opening weekend.

“We’re at U.S. 1 here, where we can wave them down and have them come in and eat,” he said. “Come relax and eat here, that’s our slogan.”
