Does your animal gnaw the cage

Does your animal gnaw the cage or the pen?
It is possible that rabbits or rodents gnaw on the bars of the cage or the wood of the pen. This can be a sign of boredom or simply the gnawing need. Try to make the living environment as interesting as possible to discover. Provide plenty of space, gnawing toys and exploration.

Why are rabbits not rodents?
Rabbits have pin teeth. These “extra” teeth behind the upper teeth ensure that the lower teeth wear out well and are also the reason that rabbits are not rodents. Lettuce has rodents and rodents do not.

Gnawing facts!
The best rodent is …
Rodents such as squirrels and beavers are experts in biting. But guinea pigs, for example, are especially good at chewing. The rat, on the other hand, is most efficient in both biting and chewing. That makes the rat the real gnawing champion!

Long teeth?
Mice, like other rodents, have incisors that never stop growing. Their teeth grow by as much as 0.3 mm per day. For this reason, they gnaw all day long to keep their teeth short. Mice gnaw cardboard, furniture and even electricity wire.

Rodgers all over the world!
Rodents can be found all over the world (except Antarctica), well-known examples are of course guinea pigs, rats and hamsters, but also squirrels, mice, beavers and even porcupines are rodents.

Giant guinea pig
The largest rodent is the capybara, which resembles a “giant guinea pig” and can grow to the size of a dog and weigh up to 40 kg!

That is a lot!
There are more than 4000 species of mammals. Almost 40% of all mammals are rodents.
