WAYNE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A Greenville man is in police custody following a manhunt in which he tried to hide in a chicken coop and fields along Route 322 and Creek Road.

Ohio State Highway Patrol said it started when Pennsylvania police issued a “be on the look-out” for Bradley Thorn, who stole a pickup and headed west on Route 322, OHP Lt. Tina Jackson said.

Thorn, 36, crashed the stolen truck Thursday night into a bridge on Route 322, east of Route 193 near Valley Veneer and Lumber.

Shortly thereafter, a Wayne Township man walked out to his backyard chicken coop to pen the chickens in for the night, when he noticed the hens were acting strangely. He flashed the light around the coop and saw a man in the straw.

The property owner marched Thorn backwards out of the coop and off his property, where Thorn walked across Creek Road and into a field.

The property owner flagged down approaching OHP troopers. Troopers continued searching for Thorn and found him about a half hour later in the field.

Thorn was transported to the Ashtabula County jail at about 8:20 p.m., where he was charged with hit-skip, failure to control, driving under suspension, no operator’s license, obstruction and unauthorized use of a vehicle, Jackson said.

Friday morning, OHP troopers returned to the area with dogs, searching for a gun. It is unknown whether they found one.
