Oakland home’s chicken coop for sale

Big news !
Seen here both with and without virtual staging is this Oakland Craftsman with chicken coop and yurt, asking $1.250M.

Boasting both a yurt and a chicken coop, this North Oakland Craftsman also features something that could become a new real estate normal during these uncertain times — virtual staging.

It features five bedrooms, two bathrooms and two kitchens. According to listing agent Hanna Kerns, the current sellers rented the lower level (where the second kitchen has been fully remodeled). New buyers could keep that setup, or enjoy two floors of separate-yet-still-together living.

The remodel preserved classic Craftsman details like hardwood floors, built-in cabinets and a tile fireplace. New features, in addition to the second kitchen, include the open, modern kitchen on the main level with vaulted ceilings, skylights and french doors that open to an outdoor deck.

The home is circa 1921. The staging, however, is all spring 2020, and the fact that the gallery above shows the home both empty and virtually staged is evidence of real estate’s rapid response to COVID-19.

Virtual staging, which has long been an option for real estate marketing, has never enjoyed the popularity it has now. Companies offer many different styles to choose from, but “many Bay Area houses have distinct character that a generic template can’t capture,” Kerns said. “In all honesty, I miss real staging and support of my stagers who are all small businesses.”

As to virtual tours in the time of shelter-in-place, those are also “the new normal.” Realtors like Kerns make walkthrough videos and host virtual open houses.
