Pick a rabbit
Picking is also a good option. That is, if your bunny likes it or at least allows it. You then pluck the excess loose hair with your hands very effectively. Your rabbit certainly does not feel pain because the coat is already loose.
However, some breeds have a longer coat that holds undercoat, and those bunnies need to be more careful. But be careful! Don’t pick so hard and so much that your rabbit has bald spots! Especially for outdoor rabbits, this is dangerous because it quickly catches cold.
Influence molting rabbit digestion
Not only can we help a bunny with the moult, we can also lend a hand inside. Rabbits lick themselves and each other a lot and during moulting they get more hair than usual. If they have a lot of hay available, this does not normally cause any problems, but not all rabbits have an equally good digestion. Then you can sometimes see a chain (droppings that are strung together by hair) or worse: the famous “hairball” occurs in the stomach with blockage as a result.
Always go to a vet if you think your bunny has a constipation. In an emergency you can give freshly squeezed pineapple juice (not from a can!). You do this with a syringe without a needle in the mouth. Together with a laxative, this is a solution that usually works immediately.
